Traveling with Kids

How to travel with kids - keep them entertained and more!

Getting Started

Traveling with kids might seem to stressful to even attempt, but every family needs to take road trips to create a special bond between family members. The photos and memories alone will be worth the several hours of "Are we there yet?" and "Don't make me stop this car!"

#1 Remember Time

For some reason time moves slower the younger you are. 1 hour of adult time or (real time) feels like 3 hours to a kid. Be mindful of this. If you have a long journey ahead of you make sure you take the real time times the 3. So if you have a 5 hour trip ahead of you, remember it will seem like 15 hours to a kid!

#2 Play Games

Depending on how old your children are you can often create a competitive environment by playing games like Road Trip Bingo or the License Plate Game. Each of these games will entertain children for a long journey and give them something to do besides stare out the window at the passing road signs.

#3 Movies

Some parents are adamant about not watching TV in the car, but let's face it, TV works. Pop in a two hour movie, and you're almost guaranteed your child will be quite for two hours. Why does it work? It's something to do. Now not all vehicles are equipped with DVD movie entertainment options, but there are some great options for after-market solutions.

#4 Stop Stop and Stop

By stopping from time to time, you'll allow your kids to burn off some energy and break up the long trips. Road side attractions are a great way to find different places to see. Some free parks offer a great way to experience the different environments you are traveling to.
